The Pardoner's tale shows the tragic effects of greed. He shares with people false trickery and lies. Him being a hypocrite becomes oblivious in the tale, especially as the story progresses. Gluttony, gambling, swearing, etc. are all faults he himself has displayed and proudly possesses, he has also displayed these faults to the other pilgrims.
