The Pardoner is a successful, although, his words have no correlation to his actions, he is a hypocrite. He is the perfect example of how greed leads to evil, which this just so happens to be his main theme. His main theme doesn't change throughout the story.  The pardoner basically scarifies his own spiritual good to cure the sins of others.
